Yummy Honey in my Tummy!

We finally tried the delicious honey that we were kindly given by McGregor's Honey last term. There were four different flavours - one jar had honey collected from the Whangara area, another collected from the Otoko area, another collected from the Ormond area and the last one was from around Awapuni. It was interesting to see the different colours of the honey. We wondered what different plants might be growing in these areas to alter the colour? The lighter coloured Whangara honey turned out to be a clear favourite!

Duckling Update....

Our little ducklings had a taste of the big wide world on Friday afternoon. Not enough shelter out there for these little water fowl yet so they are happily splashing in a paddling pool on our back lawn in a pen for the time being.

We Have Ducklings!

On Wednesday night two of our eggs hatched and then on Thursday we eagerly watched a third little duckling trying hard to break out of his shell. Their shells must be very hard because it took him all day!

It was pretty exciting when the ducklings arrived! We had lots of visitors and enjoyed sharing our ducklings with the rest of the school.....

Look at them now......They are doing so well and they LOVE playing in their water!

Baby Ducks?

On Friday we took turns hiding in Mrs Allan's cupboard to 'candle' our duck eggs to see if we have any babies developing in the incubator.....In nine of the eggs we were clearly able to see the air sac at the bottom of the eggs and the rest of the egg was dark, which is an indication that there could be a baby duck growing inside! We have our fingers crossed and have been counting down the days on the calendar until the eggs hatch (hopefully!)

Athletics Day - Year 2s

What a fantastic day for athletics today! Everyone was super kia kaha and gave everything a go! The running races were exciting, with all runners giving 100% effort to get to the finish line as fast as they could - kia maia! The tabloid events afterwards were loads of fun too. Check out our photos here

Life Education - 2021

Last week we visited the Life Education truck. We learnt about the different types of food we eat and why it is so important to eat food throughout the day.  As always it was lots of fun and Harold the Giraffe was especially entertaining! He had some great jokes to share with us. I wonder if anyone can remember them...... For more photos click here

Another Busy Maths Session.....

Weighing, comparing, estimating, creating, discovering, sharing....learning.

Our Mahi in the Mara Kai

😂

In the last week of term 3 we spent some time preparing our mara kai for the spring. We had some serious weeding to do and some of us did some sampling along the way - you'll be able to tell from the facial expressions who likes the taste of rocket and who doesn't!

'Thirtysix'

We've been playing the maths game 'Thirtysix' to practice our addition and subtraction skills. The winner is the player who gets the closest to 36 (for addition) or the closest to 1 (for subtraction) without going past that number! It is great to see the other partners helping by checking our adding and subtracting with materials or a 100s card.

On Friday we had Joey from PBRU visit us. He introduced us to some fun games to help us practice our large and small ball skills. We had heaps of fun, while practising our catching and throwing skills.

In our Happy Place!

It was great to see the great team work that went into completing out multiplication flowers on Friday!
We worked together to make groups of number to help solve times table equations and add the answers to our outer petals. We could use all sorts of equipment to help us - teddies, counters, beans, jovi......

Axel's Awesome Multiplication Flower

Wow Axel this is the first multiplication flower I have seen so far and you have done a fantastic job! I wonder if it helped you to learn your 3 x tables while you were creating in? I hope so :)

Harper's Bee Poem

I have really enjoyed reading your Honey Bee poem Harper! Bees do so many important jobs for us and for our natural environment don't they! I agree that they are 'eco savers' because without them the natural world that we love would not exist.

Fletcher the Brave!

Is it really that warm at your place Fletcher? I think you are super kia kaha bouncing in your togs on the trampoline while you are being sprayed by the hose! Hopefully the sun is heating you up or maybe the exercise you are getting from bouncing on the trampoline is keeping your body warm....You are a lot braver than me!

Theo's Busy Counting Owls

Well done Theo! You've done a great job of arranging these owls in numerical order. This is a fantastic way to learn your numbers and practice counting. What number did you get up to?

Ashley Takes Up the Challenge!

Ashley has been busy at home, working on his 'Lego Challenge' creations. Take a look at this cool boat - the challenge was to build a boat out of square and long bricks only. I think you've done an amazing job Ashley. I enjoyed hearing you explain all the details on our Google Meet this morning!

Isaac's 3 x Tables

It is cool to see you are busy practicing your three times tables Isaac! What a great idea to use colourful teddies to create an array. Do you know what 3 x 6 equals now?

Axel's Busy Bee!

Axel this is an awesome picture of a bee busily pollinating flowers on a fruit tree. Your bee is drawn so accurately Axel - it has three body parts and six legs and I can see its sting pointing out the back. It's tongue looks like it is sticking out, ready to suck the nectar out of those flowers!
