We have been learning about the different atua that are represented by our school classroom names. These children and many others created some amazing depictions of each of the atua - they put a lot of thought and effort into creating these.
Last Thursday we had our first 'Mad Ball Skills' session with Cristal. This was a great opportunity for us to practice our hand to eye coordination and to work on our skills of working with a partner. We are lucky to have three more sessions with Cristal - one every Thursday.
In maths we have been learning to compare numbers. Working out which set has more or less and which number is greater than or less than. This is a fun way for us to learn about ordering numbers.
On Friday we role played our shared book for the week, The Lazy Duck. We were learning about verbs and took turns to act out the different animals and characters in the story. It was lots of fun! One bright cookie even noted that 'verb' rhymes with 'Herb'!
One of the activities on our Matariki Celebration Day was making God's Eyes. One of the translations for Matariki means the 'eyes of god' (mata ariki). The children in Tangaroa enjoyed making them so much that they have continued to work on them during the week. The level of concentration was impressive and they created some amazing looking God's Eyes!
We read the story of the Lorax in class last week and realised how important it is that we keep planting new trees to replace the ones that get chopped down...
It was shocking to see how many bits of rubbish had made their way into Tangaroa and had washed up in the high tide line. We felt sad that this rubbish could be floating around in the sea and causing harm to the creatures of Tangaroa. We also found a lot of broken glass around the beach which is very dangerous. Please remember to put your rubbish in the bin!
We were so excited to arrive at the beach! We all felt very lucky to have such an amazing playground so close to home. Look at all the cool things we were able to do - running races, making huts, building sandcastles, making tunnels......It was great to have our mates to work alongside and collaborate with!
We visited Kaiti Beach today to explore the many wonders of Tangaroa! It was so exciting to discover things we hadn't noticed before and to be able to identify them on our cards.
We had lots of fun experimenting with our musical instruments last week. Now we are learning to play them in time to a beat - it's a great challenge!😃
On Wednesday we talked about all the different feelings we can feel - even within the space of one day. We painted our feelings. Some of us felt "happy like a shining star", "strong like an elephant", "happy like a buzzy bee", "calm like a tree" or "hopeful like a flower growing towards the sun".
