The Feijoa Problem

 What do you do when you have too many feijoas all at once? Mrs Allan's feijoa trees were dropping so many feijoas that she didn't know what to do with them! Some of us like to eat feijoas fresh but some of us think they taste yukky (that's Mrs Allan too!) So we decided to try some yummy recipes like 'Feijoa Muffins' and 'Feijoa Ice Cream' to see if they tasted any better - and they did!

Our kumara is growing!

Look at the root action from our little kumara! Now that the roots have spread throughout the soil we will hopefully have some baby kumara growing. How long does this take? I hope our kumara plant survives the winter!

Kumara Planting

 

After propagating our kumara in water in the classroom for the last couple of months, the boys decided it was time for it to be transplanted into the garden. Unfortunately we are having some issues with stinging nettle in our big garden so we have planted it in a plastic bin out on the deck. Hopefully it will grow well there and we can observe its progress!
