Visit to the Envirocentre

On Thursday we visited the Envirocentre to find out more about what's happening to all our food packaging rubbish and to think of some alternatives to using plastic wrappers. Did you know that the rubbish from our homes is trucked out of Gisborne daily (five truck and trailor loads!) and carted away to be buried in a massive hole that has been dug out of the side of a mountain over in the Bay of Plenty?? Papatuanuku, the Earth Mother, can't be feeling good about this and neither do we!

With the help of Kirsty and Steph we each made out own wax food wrapper to help us avoid creating extra rubbish from our lunchboxes. Many of us used them for our school lunch the next day. We love them because they keep our food contained and fresh - and they smell delicious!
